Infos zu Katie Melua

Katie Melua was born on 16 September 1984 in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. After a time in Moscow, the Melua family moved to Belfast in Northern Ireland in 1993 and four years later to London. The young Melua celebrated her first musical success at the age of 15 at the young talent competition "Stars Up Their Nose". She convinced the jury with a version of Mariah Carey's "Without You". Melua uses the prize money to finance the renovation of her parents' apartment.

At the age of 17, the British music producer Mike Batt becomes aware of Melua. Together the two work on various songs, which Batt tailors to the clear voice of the musician. Batt is so convinced of her talent that he offers the musician a contract for five albums with his label Dramatico. Her debut album "Call Off The Search" made a lasting impression on the British music scene and the UK charts in 2003. With her second album "Piece By Piece" she makes her entry into chart position one in her home of choice, followed by numerous awards. Her third work "Pictures" is released in October 2007. In September 2013 the chapter of the creative community between Melua and Batt closes with the sixth LP "Ketevan". On her seventh studio album "In Winter", Katie Melua 2016 breaks new ground and tries to build a musical bridge between East and West on her album with the Gori women's choir.
